Natalia Nikolaevna Smolianinova (1919–2013) – mineralogist, daughter of the famous mineralogist Nikolay Alekseevich Smolianinov. She studied mineralogy of the Tyuya-Muyun radium-uranium-vanadium deposit (Kyrgyzstan), Akchatau and Batystau tungsten-molybdenum deposits (Kazakhstan). She was a principal editor of five of the twelve issues of the encyclopedic Handbook «Minerals».

On restudy of mineral specimens from museum collections. I. General aspects, p. 38-51
The paper is devoted to the problem of restudy of mineral specimens deposited in museum collections. Two major lines of revision of museum material are discussed in details: (1) the restudy of type specimens specially focused on refinement of important characteristics of insufficiently studied mineral species and (2) the restudy of any other (non-type) specimens deposited in museum collections. It may result in the discovery of new or redefinition of already existing mineral species, first findings of rare minerals on the territory of a region and, in any case, increase of degree of study and reliability of diagnostics of a mineral etc. Significant results of such studies determine the importance of the reexamination of museum material and increase the value of museum collections.

On restudy of mineral specimens from museum collections. II. Cannonite and leguernite from Bukuka deposit, Transbaikalia, p. 53-60
Mineralogical Museum of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow under catalogue number 56077. Both minerals are intimately intergrown in polymineral pseudomorphs after bismuthinite forming veins up to 4 cm long and up to 0.5 cm thick. Empirical formulae are as follows: cannonite Bi2.06S0.97O5(OH)2, leguernite Bi12.67S5.00O34. The monoclinic unit-cell dimensions are: cannonite: a = 7.691(1), b = 13.874(2), c = 5.6569(8) Å, β = 109.23(1)°, V = 569.90(9) ų and Z = 4; leguernite: a = 11.197(2), b = 5.714(1), c = 11.879(2) Å, β = 99.37(2)°, V = 749.9(2) ų and Z = 1. Frequencies of strong bands in Raman spectra are for cannonite: 111, 121, 144, 184, 221, 318, 437, 450, 560, 619, 983, 1059, 3439 cm–1, for leguernite: 150, 183, 216, 313, 474, 969 cm–1. Both minerals are found for the first time in Russia.

Optical properties of vorontsovite and ferrovorontsovite: new data, p. 69-72
This short report contains new data on two members of galkhaite group – vorontsovite and ferrovorontsovite. In reflected light both minerals are light gray with bluish hue, between crossed polars they are isotropic with multiple internal reflections of dark red and dark brown color. Corrected reflectance dataset is given showing that both minerals have reflectance dispersion of normal type. Reflectance percentages (R, %; vorontsovite/ferrovorontsovite) for the four standard COM IMA wavelengths are 24.9/26.2 (470 nm), 23.7/24.5 (546 nm), 22.8/23.9 (589 nm), 21.3/23.2 (650 nm). Optical properties of vorontsovite, ferrovorontsovite and isostructural galkhaite are very close.
