To the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Natalia Nikolaevna Smolianinova, p. 1-18
Natalia Nikolaevna Smolyaninova (1919–2013) was a mineralogist, daughter of the famous mineralogist Nikolai Alekseevich Smolyaninov. She worked at IGEM of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, studied mineralogy of the radium-uranium-vanadium deposit Tyuya-Muyun (Kyrgyzstan) and tungsten-molybdenum deposits Akchatau and Batystau (Kazakhstan). She was editor-in-chief of five of the 12 issues of the encyclopedic guide "Minerals".

On coconinoite find at the Zor-Yarchi-Chack at Eastern Pamir, p. 19-25
A find of coconinoite Fe2Al2(UO2)2(PO4)4(SO4)(OH)2•20H2O in the oxidation zone of the Zor-Yarchi-Chak uranium ore occurrence (right bank of the Ak-Baital-Southern river, East Pamir, Tajikistan). The mineral was met in cracks of substantially quartz rock; it occur as a dense clay-like yellowish masses (with an area to 2 cm2), consisting of plate individuals with dimensions of 5–10 microns across. nm = 1.589(3) at 589 nm. The IR spectrum of the mineral is given. Composition (microprobe, average for 24 analysis; range for Al and Fe is given; H2O - CNH-analysis, average for 2 analyses, wt%): Al2O3 6.95 (5.44–7.70), Fe2O3 11.13 (9.77–12.91), UO3 39.09, P2O5 – 18.35, SO3 4.64, H2O – 22.7, total – 102.86. The total amount uprating may be due to partial dehydration of the mineral under the probe. Empirical formula Fe2.07Al2.12U+62.08P3.93S0.88О24(OH)2•18.16H2O (based on (24O + 2OH), apfu). Unit cell parameters are a = 12.45 (1); b = 12.87 (1), c = 22.75 (1) Å, β = 105.66(4)°. Al and Fe variations analysis in coconinoite from different locations (up to a highly aluminum non-ferrous, Koscheka, Uzbekistan) confirms the existence of a natural series with extreme Al and Fe dominant members.

On bismutocolumbite from miarolitic pegmatites at Eastern Pamir, p. 26-37
Findings of bismuthocolumbumite in myarolite granite pegmatites of the Rangkul pegmatite field in the Eastern Pamirs, Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Okrug, Tajikistan are described. The mineral was found in the form of crystals up to 2 cm in the myarol cavities of the pegmatite veins Mika, Malysh and in the form of sprouts of 20–30 μm in Sc-containing columbite-Mn in intergrowth with eschinitis-(Y) in the near-myarol complex of pegmatite Dorozhny. The crystals were measured on a goniometer; the calculated and measured coordinates of the faces are given (in the setup a < c < b). The habitus of the crystals is prismatic, determined by the faces of the rhombic prism m {110}; minor and weakly expressed faces of the prismatic belt: pinacoid {010}, prisms {130}, {150}, {160}, {170}; the usual faces of the head are the rhombic prism i {101} and the dipyramid u {111}, the more rare prism f {032}. The color of bismuthocolumbite in crystals is dark brown, almost black, shines reddish-brown, in small fragments reddish-brown to light brown. The trait is light brown. Cleavage perfect according to (010). The measured density, g/cm3, 7.36 (1) (Kid), 7.61 (1) (Mika). Optically biaxial (+), 2V = 70 (10)°, the dispersion is strong, r > v. The plane of the optical axes is perpendicular to the (010) plane. The refractive indices of bismuth-columbite from Mika's pegmatite: np = 2.42 (1), nm = 2.45 (1), ng = 2.50 (2). In reflected light, gray with a faint bluish tint, medium reflectivity, strong anisotropy, strong reflections from yellow to reddish-brown. Reflection spectra are given. Microhardness VHN100 = 360 (Kid), 353 (Mika). 6 m. analyzes. Chem. composition (wt.%, selective an., Kid, Mika, Dorozhniy): Ta2O5 2.11, 11.66, 8.61; Nb2O5 35.54, 28.11, 8.61; WO3 0.08, 0.11, 3.60; TiO2 0.02, 0.00, 0.58; PbO 0.10, 0.10, 0.00; SnO2 0.03, 0.12, 0.00; MnO 0.00, 0.01, 0.26; FeO 0.03, 0.00, 0.11; Sb2O3 0.78, 1.77, 8.55; Bi2O3 62.50, 57.59, 49.75; amount 101.19, 99.47, 100.10. X-ray powder diffraction patterns are shown. Parameters of the rhombic unit cell (Å): a = 4.982 (2), b = 11.719 (4), c = 5.677 (2) (Kid); a = 4.981 (2), b = 11.746 (4), c = 5.670 (2) (Mika). Possible reasons for the rarity of bismuthocolocolumbite as compared to stibiocolumbite and their Ta analogues are discussed.

To the question of restudying mineralogical samples from museum collections. I. General Aspects, p. 38-51
The article is devoted to the problem of re-studying the samples of minerals stored in museum collections. Two main areas of revision of museum material are examined in detail. One of them is the re-study of the originals of the first study of minerals (type specimens), specifically aimed at clarifying the essential characteristics of insufficiently studied mineral species. The second direction covers all other samples stored in museum collections. The results of their restudy can be the discovery of new mineral species or clarification of the characteristics of already known minerals, finds, including the first, of rare minerals in a certain region and, in any case, an increase in the degree of knowledge or reliability of the diagnosis of a particular mineral. The significance of the results of such studies determines the relevance of the restudy of museum material and increases the value of museum collections.

On restudy of mineral specimens from museum collections. I. Cannonite and leguernite from Bukuka deposit, Transbaikalia, p. 53-60
Rare bismuth sulfates cannonite Bi2O(SO4)(OH)2 and leguernite Bi12.67O14(SO4)5 have been identified by us as a result of the restudy of the samples of bismuthinite from Bukuka tungsten deposit (Eastern Transbaikalia, Russia), deposited in the systematic collection of the Fersman Mineralogical Museum of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow under catalogue number 56077. Both minerals are intimately intergrown in polymineral pseudomorphs after bismuthinite forming veins up to 4 cm long and up to 0.5 cm thick. Empirical formulae are as follows: cannonite Bi2.06S0.97O5(OH)2, leguernite Bi12.67S5.00O34. The monoclinic unit-cell dimensions are: cannonite: a = 7.691(1), b = 13.874(2), c = 5.6569(8) Å, β = 109.23(1)°, V = 569.90(9) ų and Z = 4; leguernite: a = 11.197(2), b = 5.714(1), c = 11.879(2) Å, β = 99.37(2)°, V = 749.9(2) ų and Z = 1. Frequencies of strong bands in Raman spectra are for cannonite: 111, 121, 144, 184, 221, 318, 437, 450, 560, 619, 983, 1059, 3439 cm–1, for leguernite: 150, 183, 216, 313, 474, 969 cm–1. Both minerals are found for the first time in Russia.

Phosphorus-containing helvite of the Shakhdarinsky pegmatite vein (Southwest Pamir, Tajikistan), p. 61-68
Helvite was diagnosed in the Shakhdarinskaya miarolitic pegmatite vein, which located on the southwestern slope of the Shugnan Ridge (South-Western Pamir, Gorno-Badakhshanskii Autonomous Region, Tajikistan). The mineral occurs as tetrahedral crystals 0.2-1 mm in size and granular aggregates in a miarolitic cavities in association with quartz, alkaline beryl, lithium mica, elbaite, calcite. Helvite is from lemon-yellow to yellow-brown. VHN = 762 kg/mm2. Refraction index n = 1.733(2). D = 3.22(3) g/cm3. The parameter of the cubic cell a = 8.2705(8) Å, V = 565.7(2) Å3. X-ray powder data are is given. The IR-spectrum is near to that, published for helvite, but includes additional absorption bands at 1095 and 1048 cm-1, possibly belonging to PO4-tetrahedra vibrations. Chemical composition of helvite by electron microprobe and LA-ICP-MS (average of 7 points) gave SiO2 32.08, Al2O3 0.25, SnO2 0.04, FeO 11.47, MnO 37.64, ZnO 1.63, CaO 0.07, BeO 13.4, Li2O 0.06, P2O5 0.54, S 5.59, -S=O 2.80, total 99.96 wt%. The empirical formula based on 10 cations apfu is (Mn2.95Fe0.89Zn0.11Li0.02Ca0.01)3.98(Be2.98Al0.03)3.01(Si2.97P0.04)3.01O12.07S0.97. Gelviteis enriched with trace elements (ppm): Sc – 297; Li – 260; Sn – 327; Y –32; HREE – 11. Indirect data shows phosphorus (P2O5 0.1 to 1.1 wt%) is enter to helvite as an isomorphic impurity.

Optical properties of vorontsovite and ferrovorontsovite: new data, p. 69-72
This short report contains new data on two members of galkhaite group – vorontsovite and ferrovorontsovite. In reflected light both minerals are light gray with bluish hue, between crossed polars they are isotropic with multiple internal reflections of dark red and dark brown color. Corrected reflectance dataset is given showing that both minerals have reflectance dispersion of normal type. Reflectance percentages (R, %; vorontsovite/ferrovorontsovite) for the four standard COM IMA wavelengths are 24.9/26.2 (470 nm), 23.7/24.5 (546 nm), 22.8/23.9 (589 nm), 21.3/23.2 (650 nm). Optical properties of vorontsovite, ferrovorontsovite and isostructural galkhaite are very close.

Major scientific results of the Fersman Mineralogical Museum of RAS in 2019, p. 74–95
The article is a summary of the main scientific results of the staff of the Fersman Mineralogical Museum of RAS (Minmuseum RAS) for 2019. Brief descriptions of 20 new mineral species are given: Fluorapophyllyte-(Cs), Gmalimite, Ferroefremovite, Nishanbaevite, Dritsite, Patynite, Maletoyvayamite, Hingganite-(Nd), Percleveite-(La), Radekškodaite-(Сe), Vittinkiite, Kreiterite, Oxybismutomicrolite, Sergevanite, Polyarsite, Yurgensonite, Evseevite, Chiyokoite, Alexkuznetsovite-(La), Natroaphthitalite. The current results of the study of outstanding mineralogical objects, typomorphic minerals of the deposits in Pomorie, Yakutia, Kamchatka, Urals, Caucasus, Crimea, Pamir and Tian-Shan are summarized. The data of detailed studying of the monticellite, minerals of epidote supergroup, melilite group, as well as the data on inclusions in olivine, plagioclase, clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene and quartz from the different magmatic objects are presented.

The first find of mercury minerals - tiemannite and cinnabar in the sublimates of a natural underground fire in the Kuhi-Malik tract at the Fan-Yagnob coal deposit (Tajikistan), p. 96-106
Timannite HgSe and cinnabar HgS were discovered among the sublimates of underground natural self ignited coal fire in the Kukhi-Malik tract at the Fan-Yagnob deposit of cocking coal near the village of Ravat, Ayni District, Sughd Region of Tajikistan. This is a first find of mercury minerals at that famous and historical occurrence. Timannite and cinnabar occurs as a rash on the surfaces of the burnt argillites along with thin films of Al-Fe sulfates at the fractured zone at the place of unloading of the hot gases from the underground fire. The temperature at the sampling time was not lower than 150 °C. Both minerals form the same crystals where timannite is in the outer zones while cinnabar is located in the central zones. The crystals and their intergrowths are 20–30 mµ across, usually equant. Rarely columnar crystals up to 0.25 mm are found. The crystal forms are: {100}, {111} and {111}. Twins on (111) are observed. The color is dark grey to black, luster is strong semi metallic. In the reflected light timannite is light gray with bluish tint, isotropic with R ~ 30%. Cinnabar is light gray with bluish tint, distinct bireflectance and strong red internal reflections. The electron probe analysis (wt% range timannite/cinnabar) is: Hg 72.94–75.28/83.32–83.99, S 1.29–3.39/12.90–14.38, Se 21.36–24.87/1.44–4.07, total 99.30–101.26/99.43–100.29. The powder X-ray diffraction data obtained confirm the presence of both timannite and cinnabar. The crystallization of that kind of minerals directly from the gases is the rare case in nature. Possible mechanisms of crystallization are discussed.

Jadeite of the Bedene serpentinite massif, Western Caucasus, p. 107-112
The paper presents new data on the finds of jadeite in the Western Caucasus. Microscopic and microprobe studies of jadeite samples from the Bedene serpentinite massif were carried out. It is shown that the mineral contains up to 93% of the jadeite molecule. The geological position of the serpentinite massif, the genesis and thermodynamic stability of jadeite under crustal conditions are considered. It is established that the manifestations of jadeite are associated with zones of high-pressure tectonic melange, which inherit the ancient Paleozoic zones of paleosubduction in the structure of the Fore Ridge of the Greater Caucasus. These zones are characterized by high rates of cooling and exhumation of the material of eclogites and jadeite rocks. The practical significance of the finds of jadeite in the North Caucasus and the prospects for the discovery of new deposits of this precious raw material in the region are discussed.
